McGuire and Hester was contracted to undertake a total reconstruction of a five-block area of this key destination for the City of San Leandro. The project area encompassed numerous historical buildings and a shopping center with a one-block long, pedestrian-only corridor. Due to the flatness of the site, many field adjustments were required to ensure surface drainage while conforming to existing elements. Other project elements included complete removal and replacement of street paving and installation of new decorative color sidewalks with paver bands. We also built an architectural bus stop on site and erected a concrete “history wall” and a large water fountain – all while working around ongoing vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Additional project features completed by our team included numerous architectural concrete walls, columns and arches, and landscaping with native plants and palm trees.
