Santana Row is a 42-acre “urban village” encompassing retail shops, restaurants, town homes and a boutique hotel on ten city blocks in San Jose. McGuire and Hester was engaged to perform demolition and mass and fine grading in preparation for new building pads at the site. A key challenge was to handle and safely contain 35,000 cubic yards of soil that could not leave the site. To achieve this, we excavated to a specific depth to encapsulate the contaminated material, then backfilled and compacted the material to align with the new building pad elevation, all while working in very tight quarters.
