The renovation of the Oakland Ballers baseball field aimed to meet the Pioneer Baseball League’s requirements while revitalizing a community landmark. The project involved demolishing the existing infield, mounds, grass, bullpens, dugouts, and fencing. Improvements included adjusting irrigation, installing drainage, warning track fines, infield fines, pitcher’s mounds, new grass, bullpens, prefabricated dugouts, a press box, and DG pathways. Additionally, the scoreboard was replaced, and temporary bleachers were installed.
Facing a tight schedule to meet the team’s home opener and coordinating with subcontractors, the project highlighted Oakland’s resilience and community spirit. The excitement of bringing professional baseball back to Oakland fueled the team’s efforts. The field will serve the Oakland Ballers throughout the season and be open to the public afterward.
McGuire and Hester played a crucial role in navigating city requirements and providing constructability reviews during the simultaneous design and construction phases. By working closely with the community, we built something truly special, symbolizing new beginnings and a bright future for Oakland baseball.
