Piner High School Courtyard & Site Improvements

The courtyard formed the focal point of McGuire and Hester’s work, bringing together concrete and landscape elements within the new building’s surrounding footprint. Colored concrete seat walls, flatwork, flagstone, planting, irrigation, mulch, and artificial turf were coordinated to create a functional outdoor setting that complements the new facility while providing students with additional space to gather outdoors.

Delivering the work required close coordination with building trades as multiple scopes progressed around the new structure. The project’s Santa Rosa location also extended beyond McGuire and Hester’s typical working region, making planning, logistics, and field coordination particularly important. When material deliveries presented potential schedule impacts, the team worked to mitigate delays and maintain progress in the field.

As design challenges emerged during construction, McGuire and Hester proposed practical solutions to keep the work moving while maintaining the intended finished product. By self-performing the majority of our scope, the team maintained direct oversight of critical concrete and landscape activities and coordinated their installation with surrounding trades. The completed improvements add new plant life and a welcoming courtyard environment to Piner High School, supporting the campus and the broader Santa Rosa school community.
