Truckee Airport
McGuire and Hester partnered with the Truckee Tahoe Airport District to deliver the Apron A2 Reconstruction and Snow Melt System project, a critical infrastructure improvement designed to enhance airfield operations, drainage performance, and winter reliability at one of Northern California’s premier mountain airports. Reconstructing approximately 270,000 square feet of apron and taxiway pavement, the project also included upgrades to underground utilities, drainage systems, and snow melt infrastructure. Through strategic phasing and careful construction sequencing, the project was completed while maintaining operational efficiency and preparing the airport for long-term service in a challenging alpine environment.

Built for All Seasons: Strengthening Airport Operations in Truckee
Constructing and rehabilitating airport infrastructure in Truckee’s high-elevation climate required adaptability, technical expertise, and a commitment to quality under demanding conditions. McGuire and Hester demolished and replaced existing pavement in two phases, removing approximately 4,460 cubic yards of unsuitable material before rebuilding the apron section to its new design elevation. The project also included installation of 700 linear feet of trench drainage, a new snow melt apron system, underground electrical and communication conduits, and protective concrete encasement for existing utility infrastructure.
Delivering this work in Truckee’s mountain environment required careful planning, flexibility, and close coordination among project collaborators. The team navigated changing weather conditions while balancing multiple critical work activities and maintaining airport operations throughout construction. By adapting sequencing as conditions evolved and proactively coordinating with project partners, McGuire and Hester kept the project moving efficiently while maintaining high standards for safety and quality. The completed improvements strengthen airfield functionality, improve drainage and winter performance, and provide the Truckee Tahoe Airport District with resilient infrastructure designed to serve pilots, passengers, and the surrounding community for years to come.
